Bowen, 28 Weeks Later rolls in like a poisonous dust cloud of nihilism. Guadagnino uses Argento’s original as a launching pad for interrogating how the old, whether in dance or politics, often corrupts the new. While the abuse and trauma that the sisters face is definitely the scariest thing in the movie, and hits harder having dealt with my own trauma, said trauma is scary enough on its own. 10-05-2017, ARTICLE: From Summer to Autumn: The Spirit Remains the Same (The Darker Sides of Ray Bradbury and Herman Raucher.) Carefully constructed characters and a palpable sisterly bond between Su-Mi and Su-Yeon. It seems to be marketed as a horror movie but I would say it's more of a drama with some horror elements. He diagnoses the rot of our era through these solipsistic men that pour their prejudices and their insecurities into Adam, an open book eventually read back to its authors with a violence they cultivated themselves. Crawford went to mental institutions to meet and observe some patients before shooting the film, and this preparation paid off. A Tale Of Two Sisters is definitely one for the collection since you can watch it multiple times and uncover something new at each viewing. The great meaning comes out of the conversation between the two. Cast: Sarita Choudhury, Sunita Mani, Bernard White, Omar Maskati, Anjali Bhimani, Nupur Charyalu, Lena Clark, Asad Durrani, Kim Patel, Ramesh Reddy Director: Elan Dassani, Rajeev Dassani Screenwriter: Madhuri Shekar Distributor: Amazon Prime Video Running Time: 90 min Rating: NR Year: 2020. On set, being in the scenes and watching Dylan play Maggie, I just knew that all the scenes were working so well, and it had the magic that I wanted. Unnervingly conflating fairy-tale lore with the angst of adolescent sexual development, the film is gimmicky but conceptually audacious. When asked for proof by the mayor, Janghwa tells him to look closer at the supposed fetus that had been in her bed. Was Su-yeon already afraid of that closet because the stepmom really did lock her inside before? Vulnerability on all ends, as a filmmaker, as a collaborator. I think Maggie’s line is, “Just because your life’s shitty doesn’t mean you can make other people feel like their life is shitty.” Alex is so harsh about the way that people are just trying to survive because he’s not doing a good job of surviving. It felt special in the way that I wanted it to feel special. | Rating: 2.5/4 I had this thing where I wanted it to be Alex’s dad, but for it to be a wolf dad. Basically, it’s when the mind of one of the characters is haunted (by saddness, repressed memories, etc,) and through the eyes of the character, acting like a film projector, the haunting is unleashed onto the house, which acts like the screen. | Rating: 3/4, January 28, 2005 It was very much kind of like, “How dare you make this biopic of my life freshman year?”. Did you feel a need to rescue or shelter Time from the tropes of social realism or the journalistic point of view that normally pervades stories about mass incarceration or the prison-industrial complex? Therefore it is a haunted house story and its style is very much to my tastes. I have, way deep down, this really huge, massive caring bone in my body. Helander’s direction is assured in a manner that inspires flattering comparisons: his softly lit scenes of adolescent fear and fantasy, and of father-son estrangement, recall early Spielberg; Pietari’s (Onni Tommila) trinket-adorned room and makeshift alarm clock (involving keys, sweater thread and a basin) resembles Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s whimsies; his compassionate black comedy evokes Joe Dante’s work; and his eerie snowbound setting and premise harkens back to John Carpenter’s The Thing. But it’s so small and quiet, so I didn’t know how many people were gonna really meet it. I couldn’t resist the opportunity to start our time by raising a personal connection: Raiff and I both attended small high schools in Texas that played against each other in the same athletic conference. “We were given three days to live but we kind of proved them wrong, as you can see.” Two Sisters, One Body (Channel 4) was a film about conjoined … I can imagine it’s tough to speak to a project that was never realized, but what form and shape would your film have taken without them? Few if any Hollywood-adjacent filmmakers have put as much brain power into making the digital revolution work for them as Soderbergh has, and even Unsane’s most ridiculous moments coast on the sheer energy of aesthetic gamesmanship. Nine months later the third wife gives birth to twin girls, who they name Janghwa and Hongryeon and they all live happily ever after. There are some truly haunting shots in this thing. It's wonderful to see a film that trusts your capabilit yof understanding. It feels like we have no way of my proving as a filmmaker what I knew, which was the holistic nature of who we are as human beings. The story takes place in a house occupied by a dysfunctional family…and perhaps…a few other entities. Finally, a real filmmaker gives it like it should be given...and it hurts so good. And I think being in charge of all the things really collapsed it in a way that I really liked. It’s a movie that discusses the terrifying things we can do to ourselves and to others and the lingering pain and horror that comes from what we do. And the carnage, when it arrives, is staged with an aura of guttural bitterness that refuses to give gore-hounds their jollies, elaborating, instead, on the desolation of the characters committing the acts. Bottom line: A Tale of Two Sisters is wonderfully chilling and offers more than a creepy premise which makes it a powerful cinematic experience. Upon reading the revelation, I can understand how it plays out, but I don’t like it so much. I remember getting in the car, shipping it out to get transcoded and being so incredibly nervous about the fact that there were no backups for it. This is a carefully structured film about grief and guilt, as well as horror. (Thirty-One Days of Halloween), October 14 – Burnt Offerings – Book Vs. Film – Which Medium Wins? James has the more difficult job of the two, needing to seem sympathetic even as Mrs. de Winter lurches from one clueless encounter to the next; the actress spends much of Rebecca blushing in joy or biting her lip while on the verge of tears, neither delivering much in the way of depth. No one knows, nor does Kim attempt an answer, and it’s this dedication to reflecting the mystery of female sexual awakening in the patina of the film’s set pieces that keeps things chilly and distinguishes the film from other spookers currently on the market. I prefer the creeping ghost to the ghouls that suddenly jump-out and go “boo!”  Also, I like a camera that doesn’t rush. Now, what about the number 2? Some of its plot points are disjointed. Cast: Sydney Sweeney, Madison Iseman, Jacques Colimon, Ivan Shaw, Julie Benz Director: Zu Quirke Screenwriter: Zu Quirke Distributor: Amazon Prime Video Running Time: 90 min Rating: NR Year: 2020. It was Su-mi’s guilt that hit me when rewatching it the first time. Here, the filmmaker utilizes his command of medium for more individualized purposes. To get the maximum effect, be sure to watch this one at night; just don’t watch it alone. Burt pounds on the camera lens itself by the end, as if he wanted to bust out of Autumn Leaves. Please reference “Error Code 2121” when contacting customer service. They all experience strange things once they are altogether again, chores seemingly having already been done by someone else, the stepmom hears footsteps, a ghost creeps into Su-yeon’s room, Su-mi has nightmares filled with rapidly cycling memories and sees ghosts as well. Even as Cam gives new meaning to “ghosting” when Alice watches “herself” online, the film’s strengths come from an intimate familiarity with the anxieties that accompany a life predicated on thriving in a gig economy still owned and operated by impenetrable customer service mechanisms and corporate channels of older, sweaty white men.
